We have qualified instructors to teach children and adults in swimming

Our Swimming programs

 

Level 1 TADPOLES (Children from 6 months to 4 years)
These classes are conducted between 9.00am and 12 noon on Tuesday and Thursday and on Saturdays from 11.00am to 12 noon. Parents are required to be in the water with their child for these lessons. Two instructors initiate and oversee given drills. Class sizes are no greater than 10 children for these half hour sessions. The teaching aims for these classes are to develop water confidence and water survival skills in a fun, encouraging and safe environment. 

Level 2 FISHES (Pre-school/school age children)
Pre-school age classes are conducted on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9.00am to 12 noon.  
Pre-school and school age classes are conducted from 4.00pm to 6.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Parents are not required to be in the water for these classes. No more than four children are with an instructor for these sessions. All these lessons are for a period of 30 minutes. The teachers aims for these classes are to further develop water confidence and water survival skills together with an introduction to basic swimming strokes i.e.: freestyle and backstroke.
Level 3 DOLPHINS 
At this level the children are introduced to a structured lesson plan which enables them to progress at their own rate. Correct kicking techniques are taught together with correct body position, breathing and arm strokes. Breaststroke is introduced at this level in addition to freestyle and backstroke.  
Advanced survival techniques and strategies are also taught at this level. All this is done in a fun stimulating and save environment. The maximum number of children for each session in this group is 5 or 6.
Level 4 SHARKS 
Once children can swim confidently for at least 25 meters in freestyle, backstroke and breast stroke and display an awareness of a variety of survival techniques they are ready to progress to Level 4. At this level a greater emphasis is placed on stroke technique. The butterfly stroke is also introduced advanced swimming skills such as racing dives and tumble turns are introduced.  Swimmers who are working at Level 4 are qualified for Squad Training.   Squad Training involves building a swimmer’s endurance and aerobic capacity which will lead them to competitive swimming.


All Swimming lessons are for duration of 30 minutes and cost $16.00.
Squad Training 
Squad Training is conducted on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30-7.30pm. A different squad trains each night depending on age/ability. Squad members practice all four swimming strokes, swimming greater distances and building up their aerobic capacity.
Water Aerobics

Water aerobic sessions are conducted once per week, Tuesday evenings from 7.15-8.00pm. These sessions allow participants to work, at their own pace, and are in a non-competitive environment. The cost per session is $8.00.

Intensive Swimming Programs

In the School Holiday period at the end of Terms 1, 2 and 3, we conduct a four and five day intensive swimming program for all ability groups.  Children attending this program do not need to be involved with Sweeney’s normal swim lessons.  Please call 03 9398 1150 for your booking.

Special Swimming Lesson

Our adult program is for beginners as well as swimmers who require stroke correction.  Swimming times are arranged outside normal hours to ensure swimmers get the necessary adult training.
